Thanksgiving pictures and videos

We spent Thanksgiving with Mark's family. Here are some photos and videos from Thanksgiving.

I love Skylar & Makena's coats.....too cute!
This picture of Skylar & Makena reminds me of my sister and I. I remember when we would fight, and mom would get mad at us, we'd then come to her and hug each other (like below) and say "see, we love each other." Good times!
Uncle Mark enjoying Skylar and Makena on his lap. He stole their chair and they ended up sitting on his lap.
Skylar made the Thanksgiving center piece for us. She did a great job! When asked what she was thankful for, she said her sister Makena.

Skylar made a girl's pilgrim hat.

Uncle Hip tried on the hat.....it looks more like a chef's hat.

And....Makena tried on the hat.

Makena wishing you a Happy Thanksgiving.....and gobble, gobble.

Makena talks about finger jello....Skylar talks about the turkery cookies she made.....and Auntie Jonay tries to show the cookies, but has a little mishap. Oops.

Skylar sings and dances to "I want to be thankful".

Favorite Thanksgiving Movie

One of my favorite Thanksgiving movies is Planes, Trains, and Automobiles. I can watch that movie over and over again and never get tired of all the funny lines (except that they could leave out the language of the car rental scene.....why do they have to do that?). Anyway, I still love the movie. Here's my favorite part:

The car Del (John Candy) and Neal (Steve Martin) are in has been burnt due to a fire. A state trooper pulls them over and here is the conversation:

Del: Top of the morning officer.

Neal: Hi.

Del: Is there something I can help you with?

State Trooper: What the h--- are you driving here?

Del: We had a small fire last night, but we caught it in the nick of time (ha ha).

State Trooper: Do you have any idea how fast you were going?

Del: Funny enough, I was just talking to my friend about that. Our speedometer is melted and as a result, it's very hard to say with any degree of accuracy, exactly how fast we were going.

State Trooper: 78 miles an hour.

Del: (Whistles) 78 huh? Well, yeah, I could buy that, sure, I guess you would know better than us, ahh, especially since we've got a melted speedometer.

State Trooper: Do you feel this vehicle is safe for highway travel?

Del: Yes, I do, yes I really do. I believe that and, I know it's not pretty to look at, but it'll get you where you want to go.

State Trooper: Now, you got no outside mirror.

Del: No, we lost that.

State Trooper: You have no funtioning gages.

Del: No, not a one. However, the radio still works. Funny as that may seem. With all this mess that the radio is the only thing that's really working good. And it's clear as a bell. Don't ask me how (both Del and Neal chuckle).

State Trooper: I can't let you go ahead in this vehicle.

Neal: Can't what?

State Trooper: No, it's not fit for the rode. The vehicle will be impounded until such time it can be made safe for travel on state highways.

Del: Ok office (with his hands up), I admit it, I....I broke the law and for that I'm really sorry. I am and it'll never happen again. You got me there and I won't argue with you one-I-oda, I swear. However, um....if you impound our car, I'm going to be unable to get my friend here home in time for his Thanksgiving dinner.

Packer dancing

As a Meyer tradition......when the Packer's score, the men dance. Nieces Sky and Mak joined in on this dancing.

Gun Season

Mark had a great gun-deer season. Here's the buck he got. It was a win-win situation....big enough for him to shoot, not big enough to get mounted. That's the kind of deer I like. Good job honey!

Soap or Lotion?

Today, Nov. 30, as I was getting ready for church, Mark stopped in the bathroom to get a little lotion for his hands. He said "I'm never using that stuff again".....pointing to a different bottle (from Bath & Body Works). I said "you used that for lotion?" He said "yes, when we went to the Packer/Badger game [Nov. 14-15], I used it and it was really greasy and gritty." I said, that's because it's soap, not lotion. I then asked him "until today, you've thought that was lotion".....his response....."yes." I just laughed and laughed. :-)

Badger - Packer games (Nov. 15-16)

We did the Badger - Packer trip on Nov. 15-16. It was a great weekend.....both the Badgers and Packers won! Here's some photos from the weekend and a funny video.

Mark & Jonay at the Badger game against the Minnesota Gophers.

Jonay tailgating before the Packer - Bears game. Let's see what I was wearing for this game: cuddle duds (top & bottoms), flannel lined jeans, snow pants, 2 pairs of socks, big boots, a turtle neck, wind resistent camo top, black fleece vest, and the down filled Packer coat, along with a scarf, ear muffs, and gloves. Thanks to Mark for dressing me just right for game day.....he is the pro! He even bought hand and toe warmers for me and they made a huge difference! I was warm from top to bottom (only my nose was cold).

Judy, Jonay, & Mark ready for the game.

Mark & Fritz on game day.

Ready, set, go!
Score: Packers 37, Bears 3

The crowd is cheering "the Bears still suck". I got a big kick out of myself at the end of this video....and so I thought I'd put it on the blog. Believe it or not, I was warm.....I just look like I'm cold in the video......or ready to rob a bank. NOTE: be sure to turn down the volume first because the video sound is really loud!

Rockettes (Nov. 11)

Stacy, Judy, and I enjoyed the Radio City Rockettes Christmas Spectacular show on Nov. 11, 2008. What a show! It was awesome (thanks Stacy)! I loved it so much, I bought the DVD on line. It's not the same as seeing it in person, but it's still good. One of the best parts of the show was the living nativity....showing the true meaning of Christmas.....Christ's birth! Loved it!
Here's "About the Show" from the above link:

Packer Princess & Life is Good

A funny video! Mark was singing and trying to take a video of Makena in her Packer Princess nightgown and Skylar was wanting to be in the video....can you tell? I couldn't help but laugh at the situation. Too funny......I love it!

Hear no.....see no......speak no

I couldn't resist taking these pictures of Makena.

The Handsome Hunter strikes again.......

Here's a video of Mark's buck that he shot at the Cicha ranch near Glen Flora, WI on Sunday, Nov. 9th. When Mark called to tell me he shot a deer, he said it was the kind of buck I would like.....big enough for him to shoot, but not big enough to have it mounted. :-) I agree!

Talking to Emma

Niece Emma turned 3 in early November. This is a stinking cute picture!

The Wisconsin Meyer family had a pizza party on Emma's birthday (our niece) and we all called to wish Emma a happy birthday. Each one of us got to talk to Emma for a little bit, but when it came to Skylar's turn, she took the phone and started talking, talking, and talking. Stacy had to finally say to Skylar "I think it's Auntie Jonay's turn".....otherwise, Skylar could've talked to Emma (and Jay & Shelli) all night. I loved it! It was fun to hear all that Skylar had to tell Emma.....and Skylar is only 5yrs old. Wait until she's a teenager! :-) Of course, Uncle Mark had to take a picture of Skylar while on the phone. This is a cute picture!

Halloween

Also known as Neewollah in Independence, KS. (pronounced nee-a-wall-ah)

We handed out candy to lots of kids. Maybe it's because I like to know numbers......I counted all the candy before handing it out. I pretty much gave 2 pieces of candy to each kid that came by the house. So, when I counted the candy after "closing up shop".....here's what I gathered from the night:

Purchased 237 pieces of candy.
Ended up with 19 pieces of candy.
Time frame of giving candy out: little over 1.5 hours (6:30 to 8pm).
Gave out 218 pieces of candy......2 pieces per kid.......equals 109 kids stopped by.

This one wins the creativity award: 2 boys about the age of 12 or 13 were dressed in suits with CSI logos. They came with brief cases and gave us the following business card....then opened their brief cases for us to put candy in them. Pretty creative!

Happy Halloween!

And, my favorite trick-or-treaters are......nieces Mak & Sky:

Faxing

Yesterday, at work, I needed to fax something for someone to complete and fax back to me. I called the guy first and told him I'd be faxing it her shortly. So, I faxed the document and saw that it went through.....great. Shortly after that, I heard the printer printing and checked it. I saw the document coming back and thought "wow, he was fast with returning that!" I then looked at it more closely and it hadn't been completed.....that's when I realized I had faxed it to myself. As Mark would say, Doh! At least the rest of my Friday didn't follow suit.

What's with that?

As Mark pointed out to me......do you think it is strange that coaches and such in baseball wear a uniform like the players even though they don't play the game? I mean, what other sport do the coaches wear uniforms like the players? What's with that?

Chris Tomlin pic

Here is the picture from when Steve and Mark went to the Chris Tomlin worship leader concert at Club 3 Degrees in September. According to Mark, he is bending at the knees to appear a little shorter.

Color on the walls

I love having color in the house! We pretty much had each room painted in our house except our bedroom. So, last weekend, Mark was busy painting our bedroom. Here's the before and after photos. The walls were all white and now they are Brazilian Tan and Dusted Indigo.

Mark the master painter!

Off to a wedding

Our adventure to a wedding in Loyal, Wisconsin. It was a beautiful day for a wedding! I love weddings!

Makena wanted to wear 2 pairs of sunglasses.
We stopped at McDonald's/a convenience store for lunch on the way to the wedding. We were getting ready to leave and Makena asked what these bottles were. I said they have windshield washing fluid in them. She then asked if we'd take her picture with them. How can you turn down a request like that? Thank goodness for digital cameras! Here's Makena - the spokesmodel for Power Blast windshield fluid.
The red-neck get away vehicle.
Uncle Mark, Makena, & Skylar are ready for a ride in the horse-drawn wagon.
The wedding party. Everyone looked beautiful!
The beautiful wedding cake.
Skylar outside the church by some fall decorations. Makena wasn't in the mood to have her picture taken with the fall decorations. Oh well.....I guess the windshield washing fluid picture will have to do.
Makena after the wedding. The girls had very cute dresses on!

Horse-drawn wagon ride

The wedding party takes the 1st ride in the horse-drawn wagon. Then, they give rides to anyone who wants to go. Uncle Mark took Skylar and Makena for a ride.

The difference between Mark and Jonay

One of my (Jonay) favorite meals is Tuna Helper...the Chessy Pasta one. I guess I'm quite the plain Jane eater. Mark usually.....okay, always.....doctors up his meal with hot sauce, jalapenos, and cayenne pepper. Here's Mark's plate:
Here's Jonay's plate.

Morning Glories

What is wrong with people?

Do you ever ask yourself that question? Mark and I were asking it this past week. Mark parks about a mile or so away from downtown St. Paul and rides his bike to and from work to avoid having to pay for parking (even in the winter he does this). He locks his bike up too (as a result of someone once stealing his bike that wasn’t locked up). So, on Monday, Mark calls me on my way to BSF and I asked him what he was doing and he said he was walking across the bridge to his truck. We went on talking about other stuff and then it hit me. I asked Mark “why are you walking across the bridge?” At that, he said “you’d have to ask the person who stole my bike.” I couldn’t believe it! Someone cut his chain and stole his bike. And my thinking……it’s downtown St. Paul….no one saw someone cutting the chain? It really ticks me off!

So, after that incident, Mark said to me “each time I open the tailgate of my truck to put my bike in, I’m afraid I’ll find a dead body in there”. He has a soft cover over the bed of the truck and he can lock the tailgate. He doesn’t want to wear out the tailgate lock, so he doesn’t lock it while he’s at work. So, Friday after work, Mark goes to put his bike in the bed of his truck and someone had put a dead fox in the bed of his truck (glad it wasn’t a body). What is wrong with people? Who is the world would think, hey, let’s put a dead fox in this guy’s truck bed? So, Mark found some big sticks and got the fox out. What a week!

Couple concerts

Mark, a friend Jeff, and I went to a concert at Club 3 Degrees on September 26th: Lightswitch, Vota, Tenth Avenue North, & Sanctus Real. The main reason we went was to see Sanctus Real……and they were great! However, I found a new group I really, really, really like. Vota (formally known as Casting Pearls) really rocked! Here’s their website: http://www.votaband.com/. Their sound and songs were great….the lead singer (Bryan Olesen) sings awesome and is very entertaining to watch (he kinda reminded Mark and me of Blake Lewis from American Idol…..but better)! I loved it! I didn’t want them to leave the stage! It’s one of those bands that when you see them live in concert, you’re captivated by them. For me, they have the X factor! Loved it!

Mark was able to go to a worship leader’s concert on September 9th. KTIS brought Chris Tomlin in for a concert for worship leaders only. It was held at Club 3 Degrees in Minneapolis, which is a somewhat small venue for concerts….which is why it was only for worship leaders. Mark got Chris’ new CD as a gift.

Skylar wanted to go out to eat at Applebee's for her birthday.

Skylar opened a present.....it's always what she wanted!

Although it's not Makena's birthday, she got to blow out a candle. Cute video.

September at the cabin

Here's some pictures from when we were up at Mark's sister & brother-in-law's cabin:

Another picture of Sky fishing.
And....Sky caught a fish! Here's Kirk and Skylar with the fish she caught. Sky didn't want to touch the fish.....although she said she did touch the fish with her elbow. Too funny! Mark taks Jonay and Makena for a Rhino ride.
